What is Uniswap?

Uniswap is a decentralized exchange on Ethereum where anyone can swap tokens onchain without a middleman, and UNI is its governance token.

Uniswap was created by Hayden Adams and deployed to Ethereum mainnet on 2 November 2018. UNI followed in September 2020: 1 billion tokens were minted at genesis and released over four years, 60% of them to the community, with a perpetual 2% annual issuance scheduled to begin after that. A December 2025 governance vote then switched on protocol fees and directed them into burning UNI.
