What is Stellar Lumens?
Stellar is a blockchain for issuing and moving money and other assets, and XLM pays transaction fees and keeps accounts active on the ledger.
Jed McCaleb, who had built Mt. Gox and co-founded Ripple, started Stellar in 2014 with Joyce Kim. Ledgers close by agreement among validators each node chooses to trust, with no mining, no staking and no reward paid to validators. The supply grew 1% a year for the first five years until validators voted that inflation off on October 28, 2019, and the foundation sent 55.4 billion lumens to a locked address that November, settling the total near 50 billion.
