What is Celestia?
TIA is the native token of Celestia, a network that other blockchains rent space on to publish their transaction data, and it is used to pay those fees, stake, and vote.
Celestia was founded by Mustafa Al-Bassam, Ismail Khoffi and John Adler. It grew out of Al-Bassam's 2019 LazyLedger paper and opened its mainnet on 31 October 2023 with a genesis supply of 1 billion TIA. Rather than executing transactions itself, it only orders and stores data, and nodes verify a block by randomly sampling small pieces of it instead of downloading the whole thing.
