What is Arbitrum?
Arbitrum is a layer 2 network that runs on top of Ethereum to process transactions faster and more cheaply, and its ARB token is used to vote on how the network is run.
Arbitrum was built by Offchain Labs, founded by Ed Felten, Steven Goldfeder and Harry Kalodner, who had researched rollups at Princeton, and Arbitrum One went live in 2021. It is an optimistic rollup: batches of transactions are posted to Ethereum and treated as valid unless challenged, so moving assets back to Ethereum waits out a challenge period. ARB was distributed on 23 March 2023 with an initial supply of 10 billion.
