What is Ethena?
Ethena is a protocol that issues USDe, a dollar-value token backed by crypto holdings offset by equal-sized short futures, and ENA is used to vote on how the protocol is run.
Ethena Labs, founded by Guy Young, built the protocol and the token was issued in 2024. The synthetic dollar USDe pairs spot crypto collateral with a matching short futures position so the two offset each other and the combined value tracks a dollar. ENA votes on what backs USDe, which new strategies are added and how protocol revenue is allocated; it is issued on Ethereum with a maximum supply of 15 billion.
