What is BNB?
BNB is the native coin of BNB Chain, used to pay transaction fees, stake with validators, and vote on network proposals.
BNB was first sold in an ICO from 26 June to 3 July 2017, just before the Binance exchange opened for trading, and was issued then as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. It moved to its own chain when that mainnet launched on 18 April 2019, and the EVM-compatible BNB Smart Chain went live on 1 September 2020. The supply started at 200 million and is designed to shrink to 100 million through burns.
