What is Sei?

SEI is the native token of Sei, a layer-1 blockchain built for trading, and it is used to pay network fees, stake with validators, and vote on proposals.

Sei Labs, co-founded by Jay Jog, opened mainnet in August 2023. Its consensus, called Twin Turbo, is a reworked Tendermint BFT engine: validators decode and analyse transactions before a block proposal arrives, and execution is split across workers that run concurrently. In July 2024 an EVM layer was added so Ethereum contracts can be deployed without code changes. Total supply is fixed at 10 billion.
