What is ChainLink?
Chainlink is a decentralized oracle network that lets smart contracts securely pull in outside data, and LINK is the token used to pay for those services.
Sergey Nazarov, Steve Ellis and Ari Juels published the whitepaper in September 2017, and the network went live on Ethereum mainnet on 30 May 2019 with a single ETH/USD price feed secured by three nodes. Total supply is capped at 1,000,000,000 LINK. Since August 2025, fees paid in stablecoins or gas tokens are automatically converted into LINK and held in the onchain Chainlink Reserve.
