What is Aptos?
Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain whose apps are written in the Move language, and its APT token pays transaction fees and is staked toward validating the network.
Aptos was built by Aptos Labs, founded in 2021 by Mo Shaikh and Avery Ching, engineers who had worked on Meta's Diem blockchain, and its mainnet went live in October 2022. Its contracts are written in Move, a language first developed for Diem, and Aptos Labs built Block-STM, an engine that runs non-conflicting transactions at once and re-executes only the ones that clash. Supply at mainnet launch was 1 billion APT, and transaction fees are burned.
